TARA
LINDA y SOMBRA de La LUNA (...shadow of the moon) - Merging
my love of accordion, roots Tex-Mex, and new friends...
Some
of you may know that I've begun covering Lydia Mendoza - an inspiring
woman who starting in 1920's/1930's South
Texas, played 12-string guitar and sang Conjunto- a type of folk music
that
developed along the Texas/Mexican border. She sang a
seemingly
endless repertoire of songs, originally to
the working class moving
between the US and Mexico. My love of the accordion led me to her, but
hers was
a style before the accordion became popular, before dance halls and
dancing;
soul-filled songs of hard living, lost love, and longing - not unlike
American
blues or Portuguese fado.
Gilberto
Reyes of Reyes Accordions has kindly joined me for this journey- and
will be playing bajo sexto guitar and accordion. We
will play a
blend of old and new; rancheras, boleros, and duets: "Where circus
waltz
meets the wild west: 1930's Tex-Mex." www.ReyesAccordions.com

was there to capture the event. You can view all his photos here.
"Fool's
Journey"- my first solo CD! Although
called 'solo', there is little solo about it;
several
amazing musicians worked their magic throughout. I'm joined by
exceptional musicians
from the Bay Area and Sacramento including:
Henri
Ducharme on accordion (Evocation Nostalgique,
Pennysmashing)
Kent Lacin on keyboards (Your
Mark, Fill the Sky )
Charles Dewitt on bass (Your
Mark)
Alan Korn on bass (Monkey Wake
Up!)
Lucio Menegon on guitar (Monkey
Wake Up!)
and the Iron Sheik mixed (The Five O'Clock Whistle)
