July 23 - Tortilla Western Serenade is at No. 12 on the national Roots Music Report Radio Airplay Charts.
This is the 3rd week the album has been in the top 20 Roots Rock albums receiving radio airplay.
New CD!~ Tortilla Western Serenade
My
new CD celebrates an
eventful journey
that began with one desert-inspired song (Dream out Loud),
and took me from California
into Arizona
& Texas.
I let the dust devils & tumbleweeds lead the way,
sometimes
back to a ghost town or Mission where a song was first
inspired. This album is a celebration of the Southwest in
stories.
Wildwest Visitors include a sassy Muse who challenged me to
do-or-die showdown in the Plaza (Muse's
Duel); Teresita de
Cabora on her train ride escape from Mexico (Teresita). There
are natural disasters (including love), and a song to
welcome soldiers home (Soldier's Homecoming). I
wrote the
lyrics & music for most songs, and
shared songwriting
collaboration on 4 tunes with friends Gilberto Reyes, Az
Samad,
&
Max Baca.
Producers were Grammy winning Max Baca (Los Texmaniacs) & Craig Schumacher (Devotchka, Neko Case, Calexico). Additionally, Michael Ramos (Patty Griffin) produced one song & Gabriel Zavala produced the exotic Indian-tinged cumbia dance mix. Billy Stull of Legendary Audio, Mastered. Fine JT did the artwork ;) & Nationwide reproduced (cool folks to work with). CD is available @ Waterloo Records (Austin), Janie's (San Antonio), Amoeba Records (Berkeley), CD Baby, Itunes or order here CD release shows in CA, TBA- starting in July when I come back from my China tour. Please check my schedule for details.
I'll be posting to my blog more details on the Muses and the places they take me in music, poetry & jewelry. Thank you all so much for supporting me & coming to shows!!! I can't do this without You!!

Radio Promotion - July 7, 2010
We
started our radio promotion two weeks ago, and have been
pleasantly surprised with airplay already on such great stations as
KALX U.C. Berkeley, CA; NPR KUT Austin, TX; KSYM
San Antonio TX; KMUD Community radio Garberville
CA; NPR KAXE Northern Community radio Minnesota; and
KETR Texas A&M radio, resulting in Tortilla Western Serenade
debuting on the California state Roots Music Chart. We'll be sending out the CD to more stations this month - If you know of a great radio station in your area, please be sure to let us know. The fun of researching Radio stations has been discovering amazing DJs and radio stations all across the country who play a variety of non-commercial, independent music. Most of the folks we hear from are volunteers who simply love music, so this may also be a good time for a gentle reminder to support your local non-commercial radio.

Luna Nueva - Jan 09
"New Moon" named in "Top 10 World Music Albums December 2008" by Soundroots / Spin the Globe World Music & Global Culture charts
I Journeyed into South Texas with music partner Gilberto Reyes~ this is a lively bilingual CD with a very special group of musicians celebrating varied Latin roots influences, including South Texas Conjunto. The album includes boleros, rancheras, a devilsh cumbia, a sensuous tango- many sung in the old dueto style with Gilberto. This 2008 album, named New Moon, is dedicated to the life and legend of Lydia Mendoza. |
| Musicians
on this album included El Maestro Santiago
Jimenez, Jr., Gilberto Reyes (Reyes Accordions),
Los
Maestros Pete Hernandez, and Hilario "Layo" Jimenez, and Jeff
Hobbs. |

Tara Linda Endorsed by Hohner Accordions !

Described as "refreshingly unique", Hohner recognizes Tara Linda and her Desert Cabaret as representing a new exciting generation of accordion players and genres.
Playing Tribute to Lydia Mendoza in San Antonio
I was honored to sing in the "Tribute to Lydia Mendoza" with Luna Nueva this Spring at the Tejano Conjunto Festival in May. For the last several years, I've been very inspired by the music sung and played by the women of South Texas, especially, Lydia's. Lydia Mendoza was a inspiring legend, who, beginning in the 1920's in South Texas, played 12-string guitar and sang Conjunto~ a type of folk music that developed along the Texas/Mexican border. Lydia sang a seemingly endless repertoire of songs, originally to the working class moving between the U.S.
and Mexico. She is credited with recording
over
500 songs! It was my love of the accordion that led me
to
her, but
hers was a style before the accordion became popular, before dance
halls and dancing; soul-filled songs of hard living, lost love, and
longing - not unlike American blues or Portuguese fado. We
sang
"Amor
Bonito" written by Lydia, and featuring the one and only El
Maestro Santiago
Jimenez, Jr.
on accordion!
Nite Souk Bazaar
~ We had a great time playing Oakland's first ever "Nite Souk Bazaar "
Photographer Dwayne Marsh was there to capture the event.
